1) Somewhere in the tangle of the years I’ve left behind

Are the voices that still whisper, locked inside my mind

People chanting in the rain back in nineteen sixty-nine

It was peace that we were after, but it was hard to find in darkness

2) I remember all the flaming times we struggled for our own

And we took our anger to the streets in a way we’d never known

But it still took years to end the war, so many boys never came back home

And it shattered our illusions and the seeds of doubt were sown in darkness

Darkness, darkness, it has followed

And the years have passed and the winds have changed but the rain’s still coming                          down

Another night has fallen but you know we’re still around

And we’re not afraid, we’ve been here before and we recognize the sound of darkness

3) Well it seems like wars are everywhere, there’s more killin’ every day

The old men still speak of victory but that’s not what the children say

The future’s theirs to laugh and love, and that’s too high a price to pay

So it’s time we change the rules of the game ‘cause we’re not about to play with darkness
